A bonus is only as good as its terms. The headline number on a promotion tells you very little on its own; the value sits in the conditions attached to it. This guide walks through the common bonus formats you will meet, how wagering requirements work, which clauses quietly change what an offer is worth, and a repeatable way to judge whether a promotion suits how you play.

Common bonus types
Most offers fall into a handful of shapes, and knowing the shape tells you where to look for the catch.

Wagering requirements
Wagering (or playthrough) is the number of times you must bet the bonus, and sometimes the deposit too, before winnings can be withdrawn. It is written as a multiplier such as 35x.

- Maximum bet while wagering. Many offers cap the stake per spin or hand until wagering is met. Exceed it, even by accident, and the bonus can be voided.
- Maximum cashout. Especially on no-deposit offers, winnings may be capped at a fixed amount regardless of how much you win. Anything above the cap is removed.
- Excluded games. Certain titles, often high-RTP or jackpot slots, may be barred during wagering or contribute nothing toward it.

- Expiry and forfeiture. Note when the bonus expires and what happens to attached winnings if you withdraw your deposit early.

How to judge a promotion
Rather than react to the percentage, run every offer through the same short checklist:
- What is the real wagering burden? Confirm whether it applies to bonus only or deposit plus bonus, then calculate the total turnover.
- How do the games you actually play contribute? If you favour live casino or table games, check the weighting before assuming the offer fits you.
- What are the caps? Identify the maximum bet during wagering and any maximum cashout, as these set the ceiling on both risk and reward.
- Can you clear it in the time given? Match the required turnover against the expiry window and your normal stakes.
